Note to Parents

Dear Parents,

We hope you are discovering the many ways Mayoor is working with your child to develop their critical thinking, quantitative aptitude, interest in co-scholastic activities, and the joy of learning!

Some of the unique efforts put in by teachers are a dedicated activity-based learning session for each subject every week, STEM projects, public speaking in language labs, etc. We are extremely happy with the efforts children are putting in during class hours. As we conclude this week, the classes will begin to pick up pace and children will be expected to get up to speed on their assignments.

One of the key differentiators of the Mayo ethos is how a 3 language system is used to hone the cognitive ability of our students while permitted bilingual communication allows flexibility of expression but emphasizes deep thought and greater ideas. The NEP 2020 emphasizes the importance of developing language proficiency among students, which includes the ability to speak, read, write, and listen effectively. To achieve this goal, the NEP suggests a holistic approach that includes exposure to a variety of texts, including literary works, that can help students develop language skills.

Reading is a crucial activity that can help children develop language skills related to thinking and speaking in English. When children read, they are exposed to a variety of words, phrases, sentence structures, and ideas that are not usually encountered in everyday conversation. This exposure helps to build a child's language skills and expand their understanding of language nuances. Moreover, as children read and engage with English literature, they learn to think in English. They start to understand the language as a system of communication and develop the ability to use it effectively. This helps them to speak more fluently as they grow up, because they are able to form sentences and express themselves in a way that is grammatically and culturally appropriate.

It is important to note that an emphasis on speaking (before substantial reading) from an early age can be detrimental to a child's language development as they often hear incorrect language at home or from peers. If a child is exposed to incorrect grammar or usage patterns, they may internalize these mistakes and have difficulty correcting them later on. Therefore, a focus on encouraging children to read and think in English from an early age can help prevent such mistakes and ensure better proficiency as they grow older.

Parents should encourage their children to read regularly and provide them with access to a variety of English literature, which can be beneficial for their academic and personal growth. To support this Mayoor School Jaipur has subscribed each student to Newsahoot - a news app that publishes a relevant article from a broad range of topics every day for our students in three levels of reading ability. Reading this article is a mandatory assignment for all children of the school. Please be rest assured that English proficiency is an important area of development at the school and our efforts towards reading will ensure that your children build the correct language and communication skills.
